Computing Intent
At Westdale Junior School, we believe every pupil should have access to a broad and ambitious computing curriculum, which encourages a thirst for thinking outside of the box and a love of computers, knowing how they can change the world. It is our intention to enable children to confidently and responsibly find, explore, analyse, and present information. We want all students to thrive as responsible, digital citizens. Technology does, and will continue, to play a pivotal part in our children’s lives, therefore, we want to educate them on how to use technology positively and safely.
The current pillars that drive our curriculum are:
Computer Science: programming and understanding how digital systems work.
Information Technology: using computer systems to store, retrieve and send information.
Digital Literacy: evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully.
Our intent is to deliver a computing curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child so that they develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning and discovery. Progression in learning is clearly mapped from Year 2 to Year 7 in the attached knowledge progression grid.
