Curriculum
Curriculum Intent
Westdale Junior School’s curriculum places essential knowledge at its core. We structure our curriculum to ensure children are able to build on their prior knowledge and are explicitly taught to make links between units of work and across different subjects. This is facilitated through regular revisiting of key knowledge from previous learning. Embedded within many units of work, are opportunities to learn about and learn from a diverse range of significant individuals as part of our commitment to celebrating difference and challenging stereotypes. Class discussions are a key part of our approach to learning to encourage our children to develop their own opinions and be able to voice them confidently. We aim to provide high levels of challenge alongside appropriate support to enable all children to embrace and rise to that challenge. Our school values such as resilience and determination play an integral role. We know that our children are capable of great things and it is our job to ensure they are able to do so.
