Physical Education
PE Intent
At Westdale we recognise that physical activity is a vital part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We aim to inspire our children to develop a lifelong passion for sport, be it Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Competitive Games, Swimming or Outdoor Activities.
Our PE curriculum encourages children to grow in their confidence of each discipline as they learn new knowledge and skills across the years, becoming ever more proficient. Simultaneously, children become independent in their knowledge of exercise, equipping them with the skills they need to exercise safely and effectively in the future. A desire to perform or compete, both independently and in groups, are fostered in all disciplines, creating a sense of excitement around each and giving children the opportunity to shine.
Our intent is to deliver a PE curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child so that they develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning and discovery. Progression in learning is clearly mapped from Year 3 to Year 6 in the attached knowledge progression grid.
